Three police officers perished and no fewer than 15 others were hurt in an apparently intentional gas explosion at a rural property in the northern part of Italy.

The explosion occurred as officers and emergency crews approached the residence near Verona to enforce an court-ordered eviction for three siblings in their late 50s and mid-60s.

All three deceased individuals belonged to the Carabinieri military police.

Legal Proceedings

A man and a woman were arrested at the site and one more individual who fled following the incident was found shortly later. All three have been admitted to the hospital.

The detonation could be noticed as far as 3 miles distant and photographs from the location displayed the building turned into a mass of wreckage.

“We are in a period of mourning,” said the Minister of the Interior Minister Piantedosi, who mentioned that previous tries had been made to remove the three siblings in the earlier times.

“All of us understood the scenario was critical,” neighbors stated to reporters, noting that the trio had in the past stated to “detonate the property” rather than vacate the property.

Defence Minister the Defence Minister stood alongside other political leaders in paying tribute to the three officers who had been killed in the line of duty.
